Eror: Canvas does not allow drawing

edited August 2008 in General
Hi there,

I have a database app in D6.2, using RB6, which works fine on a number of XP
machines.

I have recently bought an Acer Laptop with Vista and I have just put my app
on it to do a presentation
tomorrow. When I try to see my report, I get an error message saying
"Cannot
generate report. Canvas does not allow drawing". This is going to be a bit
of a show stopper for me.

I have plenty of resources on the laptop. I have 2Gb of memory and am using
less than 1Gb with the app running.

Do you know if RB writes to an area of the OS that is forbidden by Vista.

If not, have you any ideas?

Regards,

Ian Millward

AFAICR this was a bug in 6.02, fixed in 6.03--contact support and see if
they can get you a patch or upgrade to the latest and greatest (version 10
    is really nice).

    Edward,

Thanks for that but I see that I have 6.03 on my machine.

I'll try the demo of v10 and if it flies, I'll get it. How much to upgrade
from v6 and where do I find my licence number. It is many years since I
    installed it.

    Hi Edward,

This problem can manifest itself in a number of ways, a few of them specific
to the Windows Vista operating system. First be sure you have proper access
to your printer and video drivers. Next I would suggest downloading a trial
copy of the latest version of ReportBuilder (10.09) and running some tests
with that. If this solves your problem, I would strongly suggest that you
consider upgrading your version to the latest.

How much is an upgrade from 6.03 Standard to 10.09 Standard?

    Nico,

Thanks for that info but I had, unsurprisingly, looked at your website
beforehand and couldn't find the specific info I was looking for. however,
it has now been overtaken by events because I installed 10.9 for D6.3 and
created a very simple report which wouldn't compile. I kept getting an error
message something about the property Email service doesn't exist. After
several attempts to get it to work, I decided to cut my losses and solve my
problem by running MS XP as a virtual machine inside Vista.. Much simpler
    and cheaper.

    Ian
