AV when printing using "older" version of software

edited May 2009 in General
Sorry the specific details will be a bit vague but I have a client running
some of my software - actually written in Delphi 6 and I don't know what
version of ReportBuilder, but it's a release from pre 2007. They are running
my software under Windows XP (but via MS Virtual PC on a Vista Home
machine). It has been working ok for some time but now is suddenly creating
access violations when they try to print reports. Something along the lines
of

Access violation at address 71615918 in module 'IMFNT5.DLL! Read of address
0000006C.

Has anyone got any suggestions please? - so far I've got them to try and
reload the printer drivers, they've also tried it on two different HP
printers one is an HP-C6280 and they've played witrh some of the settings on
the printer, Like Economode, FastRes etc. I have big issues in that I no
longer am able to build this system (long story) so even if I could
duplicate the problem I can't debug it myself).

TIA

    Hi Willie,

This is not a known issue with ReportBuilder however a quick search on the
IMFNT5.DLL file gave the following result that may be of some help. If this
had been working ok until recently try to find out what about your user's
system changed. Did they update or change printer drivers or printers.
Does this occur with every report or just certain reports with certain
components? Are they able to print to a PDF driver or Microsoft Document
    Image Writer?

Thanks for that Nico, yeah I had seen that link and I got the user to play
with the settings as mentioned (including reloading/upgrading the printer
driver), but apparently it made no difference to them. I'll ask them a few
more questions and try your suggestion about printing to the MS Document
Image printer (I had asked them if they had another printer they could try
but it was another HP so same issue, I didn't think of the standard MS one),
and see if I can narrow it down some more. I'll maybe get back to you if I
    can get some more info.

Try downloading the printer driver and installing it on your machine and
    running some tests.

If you determine the exact version of RB being used, then can try a test
using that version and try another test using the latest release.
