ANN: eDocEngine and PDFtoolkit VCL - A heads up for PDF and reporting tool users

edited August 2009 in General
I haven't been visiting here in recent times, but we have been supporting
ReportBuilder users for a long time now with our eDocEngine product. We
thought this information would be of interest to ReportBuilder users and
hence an announcement here.

Thank you. Announcement follows.

eDocEngine and PDFtoolkit VCL - A heads up for PDF and reporting tool users
---

I would like to follow-up here with some more information on the progress we
have made in the past month or so on our announced plans. Our customers have
received most of this information earlier and now they can also see the
progress on the products in their private login. The online progress sheet
is updated at least once a week. If you are a customer, and haven't got this
information, please send us an email.

Here is some of the specific progress on the products and the plans:

eDocEngine VCL
--------------
We've taken the time to overhaul the product with regard to Delphi 2009 and
at the same time Delphi 2010 support. There have been several optimizations
with regard to rendering Metafiles and RTF content to PDF. Apart from this,
the upcoming release includes fixes to issues reported by customers, and
among them some power users too.

v2.5.2 is expected to release in the next couple of days.

Work on v3.0 is also progressing and in v3.0 we will be using our new
optimized PDF Processor technology, there will be full Unicode support for
PDF and support for Digital signing of created PDF documents, apart from
several other enhancements.

As additional information for reporting tool users, eDocEngine already
supports rendering of text and graphics contained in Metafiles, Charts and
RichText content placed on reports to vector format in the PDF. This enables
the PDF to be light-weight, scalable and printable at high resolutions
without losing quality, have the same text formatting as in the original
report and for the text to be searchable.

PDFtoolkit VCL
--------------
The upcoming release of PDFtoolkit VCL, version 3.3, is also expected in the
next couple of days. v3.3 will support adding of digital signatures to PDF
documents, has major speed and memory use improvements with rendering
(viewing and printing), especially with PDFs containing images, and other
fixes and optimizations.

Full-fledged digital signing and digital signature management support with
regard to PDF, involves supporting a multitude of functionality as per the
PKCS standards (Public Key Cryptography Standards), and some specific to
PDF. Some of these functionalities are adding digital signatures to fresh
documents; signing existing documents; inserting, filling and deleting
signature fields; verification of signed documents, verification of
alterations against/upholding permissions, certificate trust, signing date
and so on; retrieval of parameters related to digital signatures from a
signed document and a document that contains empty signature fields;
certificate management with support for multiple certificate encodings and
other functionality.

PDFtoolkit VCL will provide full-fledged support for digital signing and
digital signature management with regard to PDF. The functionality will be
available in an incremental manner starting with v3.3. These will be free
upgrades to existing customers of PDFtoolkit VCL v3.x.

There are several enhancements coming for reporting tool users (reporting
tools such as ReportBuilder, FastReport, QuickReport, Rave and so on), where
you will be able to render PDF pages on your reports and include PDF
elements in reports when saving to PDF.
