Insufficient Memory during the Preview

edited June 2006 in End User
Delphi 6 Update Pack 2,
ReportBuilder 7.03

Hi,

I have a problem with a report with during the preview.
I get the message (in Italian):

"Memoria insufficiente per eseguire il comando"

that translated in English should be:

"Insufficient Memory to execute the command" (maybe it's "Not enough storage
is available to process this command", but I'm not sure)

The problem happens only on preview, navigating to a page that renders a
large (3/4 pages) RichText (with TppDBRichText).

Is there any known issue about this?

If you want I can send you the archive file.

Thank you in advance,
Massimiliano

This is not a known issue.

    - try downloading the latest printer driver and testing with a different
printer driver. RichText rendering (even for preview) is done using the
printer device context - which means that windows relies upon the printer
    driver.

    - RB 7.04 was the last release for RB 7.x. Send an email request, including
your serial number and registration info to info@digital-metaphors.com and
    request an update.

    Hi,

When I have time I have to upgrade to 10.03 version, but it takes some time
(many projects, many libraries and a lot of test), so if it's only to be in
the last version I'd avoid it.

    New Notes:
not all the machines get the error
I get it on some pc with XP SP2 + all Windows Update with 512 MB of RAM
and some GB of disk space.
It's more probable to get ther error with high _video_ resolution.
The default printer does not influence the probability to get it.
    Some PCs never get it.
I tried to load the output as archive with an archive reader and this
    reproduce the problem.

Is there any known issue about this problem with RB 7.03?
Can I send you the .RAF file?

    Thank you in advance,
    Massimiliano Trezzi

I think you misunderstood. The update from RB 7.03 to RB 7.04 is free. Send
an email request, including your serial number and registration info to
    info@digital-metaphors.com and request an update.

    Hi,

no, when I say "expensive" I mean that it takes a lot of time and I think it
    should be wasted time because:
    * on next weeks I will upgrade to 10.03 (that I've already purchased and
downloaded) so I should not upgrade from 7.03 to 7.04.
    * probably there's nothing in 7.04 that fix this. I think you know if you
fixed a problem like this and in which version, isn't it?

    Other symptoms:
    * if I print directly all is ok!
    * I found a PC with Windows 2000 that produces the problem.

Can be usefull the .RAF file?

    regards,

If you have RB third-party add-ons or custom add-ons, then those will need
to be updated as well. Other than that you can just install and rebuild.

There are known issues with an error such as this.

    Hi,

    it's me again!

I installed RB 10.04, but I get the error again!

The problem depends on the machine. In some Pc I get the error on others
    not!

    What can I do?
Can I send you the RAF file?

    Thank you in advance,

Try to determine what is different about the machines that have the issue.
    Are they running Win98?

    No,

    I have three pcs:
two Windows 2000 and a Windows Xp, with all upgrades.

The XP one has more than 1GB of memory.

    What can I do?

Try updating the printer driver and try testing with a different printer. I
reread the posts in this thread and you describe this problem as being
related to RichText, which internally will rely upon the printer driver
(even for preview because a metafile will be created based upon the printer
    device context).

I tried with three different printers!
The only think I see changes the behaviour is the screen resolution.
The more is high, the more it's likely to happen.

    What can I do?

Try creating a simple example report that produces the error and that we can
run here. Use only standard Delphi components and RB. Send in zip format to
support@digital-metaphors.com and we can check it out here.
