Creating NEW report with RB Server

edited November 2010 in End User
Hi,

I have successfully done the "Building a Report Server for an Explorer
Database" using existing reports from earlier RB version but how do I
create a new report from the thin-client explorer?

The 'New Report' option does not exist?

Thanks,
Arthur

RB Server Edition provides the ability to publish reports to thin-clients
and web browsers. It includes a ClientReportExplorer and ClientReport, but
there is not a ClientDesigner. You can use the standard report designer to
build reports and store them in the report explorer database and then they
will be available for publishing via the server.

    Thanks for the reply Nard.

I am supporting a multi-tier app using Delphi 2005 and RB 10.x and want
to move to D2009 and RB Server. The big selling point for the app. is
the flexibility of end-user report creating/design/editing and the
remote support for end-users with new/modified rtm files being emailed
as attachments and then imported into the app.

    Can you please confirm:
    1. with RB Server can reports be designed/edited only on the server?
    2. Specifically, can a thin-client end-user do report design?

    Thanks,
    Arthur

Have you considered using Delphi's DataSnap as a replacement for ASTA? And
not just with RB but with your entire application.

Here is an rbWiki example of using the ReportBuilder end-user solution with
DataSnap. (Note the example does not use RB Server Edition.)

    1. with RB Server can reports be designed/edited only on the server?

RB Server can publish reports only. No creating/editing.

    2. Specifically, can a thin-client end-user do report design?

The Designer cannot be used with ClientReport/ClientReportExplorer. There is
    no ClientDesigner.
