Was hoping there was an RB developer that would step forward with an example.
Digital Metaphors does not have an example for using ASTA in an end-user application.
The first step to creating an example would be to start with one of the RBuilder\Demos\EndUser Databases examples for SQLServer. Perhaps the RBuilder\Demos\EndUser Databases\SQL Server\ADO example. As a first step get the example working without ASTA. Then add the ASTA piece in as a second step.
There are different parts to getting an end-user application to work properly. The first part is to get the daAsta plug-in working. This is used by the Query tools to build SQL dataviews. The second part is to get the ReportExplorer working. And then optionally get the DataDictionary working. The ReportExplorer and DataDictionary call methods on the DBPipeline to update rows in a TDataset. This code does not use the DADE plug-in at all. It calls TDataSet methods that should be implemented by dataset descendant classes.
ASTA tech support should be able to help you with any ASTA related issues that arise. You can post to this newsgroup for RB specific questions and I can help you with you those.
