Report bloat when richedit contains a bitmap

edited January 2002 in General
My users can insert images into richedit fields. Yet when these
are incorporated into a Report Builder report the report is
excessively bloated. e.g. 28kb bitmap increase the report size
by 500kb. The MB file for that table itself does not increase
disproportionate so it can only be during the incorporation into
a report.

Is this a known bug?

Test this with the rich text component on a form all by itself. I took
Infopower and inserted a 56K image in it and saved the rtf. The rtf grew to
129K in size, from the 1K it was before. How much does you rtf grow if you
add the image to it, when it is on a form?

I tested with the 28kb bitmap and it changed the 1kb file to 103Kb. Trying
some different sizes suggests that there is about a 70Kb 'premium' to saving
a bitmap. This does not explain why my report size increases from 51kb to
half a megabyte! I would be happy if the report builder report just added
    70Kb.

Have you my example of a richedit in a blob data field included on a report?

Most richedit controls convert images into windows bitmaps
for storing them. So any compressed file will end up stored
as uncompressed in the RTF control.
