AFAIK an archived report is stored in a binary format (not plain ASCII), but is isn't compressed. You can write your own ArchiveDevice or use your own archive function, the latter do I. I read the freshly written RAF file into a stream, which then is used as input for a zip component. The packed result is written to disk and the RAF source gets deleted. In addition I had to create my own ArchiveReader to handle the compressed archive files.
