Determining pixels per character

I would like to write a procedure that can print a dataset. Internally it
would create a form, data access components and a report. The detail band
would contain each field.

I want to set the length of each DBText based on the length of the dataset
fields. How can I determine what the length of either an average width
character, or widest character would be in report builder units?
