rich text within a shape

edited April 2002 in General
Hello,

in a detail band i am using a rich text component within a shape like
this:

+- shape --------------------------------+
| |
| +- rich text ------------------------+ |
| | | |
...
| | | |
| +------------------------------------+ |
| |
+----------------------------------------+

Both, the rich text and the shape component are stretchable. My problem
is, that the area to be left clear between the rich text and the bottom
edge of the shape shrink after put in more text than at design time. How
can I prevent this effect?

Instead of using a shape use a region component and fill it with the desired
color. Place the richtext component within the region and set it to stretch.
Lastly, right click over the rich text component, select Position, and set
the Bottom Offset property to some positive value. When printed the region
will stretch with the richtext and there will be a border at the borrom
equal the the Bottom Offset value in height.

    Hi,

ok, this was a rtfm problem. I tried it with the shapes and it workes
fine. Is there any other reason for using the region component?

The reason to use regions is that if other components are present in the
band you can get better behavior in getting them to position in relation to
    each other.
