Preview Performance
Hi all,
My reports work great on my Athlon 1200. My client on the other hand is
still using older Celeron 366's( 256 Mb). The previews take extremely long
to show and sometimes appear to hang. I don't think that it's a data issue
because my forms and grids perform reasonably well.
Any performance enhancing tips?
Cheers,
TJL

The difference in performance between those two machines is so huge you
won't believe it....;-)
I just made an upgrade of about those dimension, and I'm now in a totally
different scenario. I have encountered operations in applications that run
some 50x faster after moving from 350MHz K6 /128MB to Athlon 1600+...

version of RB which was causing the printer intialization logic to fire too
often.
You can try the demo of 6.03 to test the performance:

thanks for stepping in.
Of course do I use version 6.03. My Printer is a HP Laserjet 5. The latest
original HP Driver for Laserjet 5 is very slow within the first preview and
does not print the EUR symbol , whereas the MS Printerdriver is fast and
print the EUR symbol.

RB Standard 6.03 / W2K /2
is to make the data access as fast as possible, which means using in memory
datasets.

I?ve downloaded your trail version (enterprise 6_0_3) to test your
reportbuilder.
(I?ll change my reporting tool - in the moment I use QuickReports...)
I?ve the same problem with a slow preview. The problem is, that I`ve one
printer
who is offline. If I delete him, then also the first preview works fast...
I?m very shocked to see the same problem like it is in the QR?s...is there
another way
to get the first preview fast. I wont assume my customers to delete all
printers which are
offline...

Do you have any idea?
Bye!

should not have to access any printer drivers to generate the screen
preview, although the pagination for the printed output will be different
when you generate the report to the printer because the printer resolution
is more precise than screen pixels.
