Print to Queue

edited June 2002 in General
Our network admin has asked me if it is possible to print straight to
a NT4/2000 print queue instead of requiring the printer be installed
on the machine. We are specifing some printer names in code, I know
bad idea but a temp fix until we redo the application this fall. The
admin is really pushing for this. I told him I don't think it can be
done but I will ask the experts on the news groups.

Thanks,
Ross

Be aware, for NT/2000, the printer names are returned different than Win 9X
for the same printer. We haven't researched printing to a queue with API
calls, but it may be possible. We're pretty confident that you need a
printer driver installed on the machine to print with ReportBuilder at this
time. ReportBuilder relies on the printer driver to measure text widths to
    generate to the selected printer.
