I recomend you to send a mail to James and ask him about the limitations of the converter. AFAIK is very useful for not too complex reports, so it can save a lot of time if you have a lot of simple reports to migrate.
We've never tested it. We know it won't create very complex RB reports, only simpler ones. I'll continue to reccomend building your reports using RB instead of relying on a converter. This way you get to learn RB and understand how your reports are constructed in RB so that they can easily be maintained in the future when you want to make some changes.
Stop messing around the only good thing to do is to rewrite the reports it may sound like a real time saver at the beginning but ask yourself how much time you already put into this... i faced the same challenge and looked for the same approach but thx to Tom & Jim i realised that the only good thing to do was to rewrite them so i did and that time i learned all the ins and outs of RB so now even the most complex reports are a snap (the biggest time consumer is the layout of things ) so really, do yourself a favor and just build the reports if you have problems you'll find answers here i also recommend digging into the tech-tips section
I thought that this was a newsgroup , for post doubts, questions, ask for help. I don?t believe that you know how many report i have to rewrite , and if exists a component, it should work. If you cannot help, don?t post. It will only be one more post. I?m still having problemn, I?m trying to get some help. And I really want to learn more about RB, but to create simple and not too complex report, I already know. So who are you to tell me what to do ? Will you came here to help my crew to develop all reports we need ? I don?t think so. But if you knew how to put the mencioned component to work and gives a hand , we would be glad.
The benefit of using the conversion expert is to quickly recreate the layout of the report in RB. Most reports have 30-40 controls on them and each of these controls have 5-6 properties that need to be changed (Font,AutoSize, etc). Then you need to place the control at the same position as the original. This could take some time to do by hand.
If the QR2RB converter is not working for your reports, then contact the author of this component at www.waler.com for help. Perhaps, make a super simple QR and send that to waler with all information about the report (ie. QR version, Delphi version, report requirements). This way waler can simply run this report on the converter and verify if it is a bug with the converter or just a known current limitation. Let us know how it goes.
