They are compatible when moving from RB 5 to RB 7. If you try to move from RB 7 to RB 5, then you will receive property loading errors, although it may be able to load it correctly after that. The templates should convert automatically with no problems from RB 5 to RB 7. Be sure to backup your templates before trying to convert them. To convert, all you need to do is load the template into an RB 7 report and save the template in the new format.
One more question, just to confirm (because I have a lot of reports distributed on my clients), do the report templates saved on a database field, load and print correctly from RB7 without saving them before?
Yes, you should be able to run those reports without saving them first. Backup the database before trying to modifying them in RB 7. After you load a report into the designer, you will get a message when you try to exit the runtime designer if you want to save your changes, since the reports will be converted upon loading. The designer will consider them as modified. Once you save them, they will be in the RB 7 format.
