Quick Reports convert to ReportBuilder or Crystal Reports

edited May 2003 in General
We are moving to Delphi 7 and want to rid ourselves of Quick Reports which
has been nothing but a headache. Does anyone have any thoughts on
converting over to Report Builder? Is it a complete redo, are there any
conversion tools? Any other thoughts?

Also any thoughts on Report Builder versus going to Crystal Report?

Thanks

    Hi Wayne,

I'll let our Crystal-to-ReportBuilder customers answer the RB vs Crystal
question here, as I have already responded to your post on the Borland
    Reporting-Charting newsgroup a few days ago, so I won't cross-reply-post
    that message:)

Yes, there is a converter. It won't be a complete redo depending on the
complexity of your reports. There is a converter for QR to RB which is
provided by James Waler, who is one of our addon device authors. Try surfing
http://www.waler.com/qr2rb.htm I believe it can't create the more advanced
layouts, but those are best left to be recreated by you. The advanced
reports you may have to recreate will give you the opportunity to learn the
basic as well as more advanced fundamentals of ReportBuilder. By learning RB
in depth and finding out how flexible it is, you can create new reports
extremely fast using wizards and custom templates you can create. Alos, many
times when we are working on tech-support on our newsgroups we like to
provide custom coded demos if there is something that can be done using the
flexible RB architecture that isn't included in the product and we think it
can be useful as a technique.

    Cheers,
