making a .Net decision

edited May 2003 in General
to DM:
since we eventually will be building this so called managed code and since
Delphi for .Net will be shipping end this year,
will DM make a .Net version of Reportbuilder
cause i really do not want to bother with crystal ....
and since i made the decision of waiting for Delphi for .Net it is important
for me to know if i eventually will be able to transport my reports over
without a hassle
so if it is possible to give some answers at this point i would really
appreciate it
cause some little voice in my head keeps asking why to not switch to .Net
right away now...

tia,
marc

    Article: .Net ReportBuilder Support?
    ----------------------------------------

Digital Metaphors is very excited about the .Net platform and Delphi for
    .Net.

The Digital Metaphors creative team is currently working towards creating
RB4D4DN (ReportBuilder for Delphi for .Net). The time frame for a release is
    unknown at this time.

Borland is incrementally releasing Delphi for .Net previews and we are
anxiously awaiting the final release of Delphi for .Net.

so does this mean that the actual development only will start when the
    D4.Net will be available?

The short answer is that ReportBuilder for Delphi for .Net is going to be
written in Object Pascal and leverage the current Delphi classes. This will
depend on how well Danny Thorpe and the Borland team can build a Delphi
class library over the .Net framework which we can use just like we use
Delphi today for Windows programming. RB for Delphi for .Net would also mean
that we could be fully integrated into the Delphi for .Net IDE.

    Cheers,
