How to get around "error attempting to initialise BDE.." in DATA tab in RB7?

edited June 2003 in General
Re my earlier email - the problem isn't ADO. My portable is XP Pro with
Delphi 6 (Enterprise) and RB7.

When I click on the Data tab, and do "File" > "Data settings", I
immediately get "Database engine error, an error occurred while trying to
initialise the BDE. I don't want to install the BDE on my portable in case
I upset something else. Do I have to install the BDE to get around this
problem??

Can I install the BDE without risking destroying Delphi?

    Hi Barry,

A patch was created to allow you to use DADE without the BDE installed.
Please send an e-mail to support@digital-metaphors.com requesting the patch
    and installation instructions
