Re: Re: How to use a PDF file inside ReportBuilder report
Hi Nico,
Thank you for the answer.
Do you know a tool to convert PDF files to RTF without loosing the page
layout and look of a PDF page?
I tried to find one but all of them seem to change the positions of text or
lines or images relative to the original page itself...
As for WMF, I thought about it also, but I'm afraid the speed of report
based on the whole page WMF file will not be good enough. Though it will be
vector graphics, not raster it will still print worse (speed and quality)
than the text itself.
I'd appreciate your answer.
Thanks in advance.
Alex

I personally have never used a PDF to RTF converter, but a quick search on
Google returned numerous products that will perform this task. There were
also some utilities that could convert PDF to a JPEG image which could then
be displayed in a report as well. I would suggest downloading a few of
these utilities and trying them out to see if they meet your requirements.
If you find a good one, please let me know, the information could be good if
this question comes up again. Thanks.

I've already tried many of them and was not satisfied with the results
BEFORE I started to ask you questions on Friday :-)
If it were as simple as searching on Google, I would not ask you...
I've tried:
ABC Amber PDF Converter and ABC Amber PDF2Image Converter
PDF2Word
PDF Metamorphosis
SolidDocuments SolidConverterPDF
It does not seem that they are able to preserve 100% of look of the PDF page
when converting to RTF.
RTF is preferable because of printing speed.
As for WMF, it's not obvious how to make picture look the same as it looks
in Acrobat Reader.
The converted WMF image displays differently on paper when printed compared
to the original.
Are there any plans [in Digital Metaphors itself] to write a PDF component,
smth. like TppPDF similar to TppRichText?
Or maybe there is some other solution?
Thanks for your attention and replies.
Alex
Unfortunately there are no current plans to create a PDF viewer inside
ReportBuilder. From what you mentioned below, you definitely have far
superior knowledge of these products that I do. Perhaps some other
customers reading this thread will chime in and give you their experiences.

if your PDF is a fill-in form or a grid-like report, try Grid Pack for
ReportBuilder at www.planit-tech.com.

Just a possibility you may want to investigate...
If you can convert your PDF to WMF, you can use eDocEngine to convert the WMF to
RTF (WYSIWYG) to render on your report. I'm not sure though if the generated
(enhanced) RTF is supported by RB's RichText control.
Let us know if we can be of any assistance.
