Tutorial again

edited November 2004 in General
I am now going through near the end of the tutorial comes along with the
Enterprise 7.03 edition.
However, at the tutorial Order Summary, I cannot get the same layout as
what I should get, I get the summation of each order rather than summay
of all orders.
Anyone has same situation ?

One thing is at the early stage (ie. Task 1) of this particular tutorial
in building up the Data, I need to link the Customer and Orders tables
manually, am I missed something ? However, the picture in the tutorial
seems the link is created automatically.

    Hi,

In order to enable the AutoLink functionality, you need to be sure that you
are using the Data Dictionary. Check this by selecting File | Data
Settings... from the Data Tab menu and be sure the Data Dictionary check box
is selected. I am unsure why this is not automatically selected. In my
testing it is. You may want to try re-installing Learning ReportBuilder and
    see if that helps.

Note: It is also possible to manually link the master and detail fields by
simply clicking and dragging the detail field from the detail data view to
the corresponding master field in the master data view.

Yes, I just drag and drop to create master-detail link between these two
    tables.
Why do I need to reinstall the LearnReportBuilder ? I am confused with
LearnReportBuilder as I only read the .pdf sheets to practise.
I don't know how to make use of the LearnReportBuilder.

    Hi Alan,

I'm sorry, which version of ReportBuilder are you using (i.e. Pro,
Enterprise, Server)? You do not need to re-install Learning ReportBuilder,
or install it at all. If you would like to see the completed tutorials, you
can find them in the \RBuilder\Tutorials\Complete\II. Applications\...
directory. These may give you an idea of how they are supposed to look once
    finished.

I am using the Enterprise Edition.

So in short, I can practise the Report Builder by reading the .pdf files
and then look at the LearnReportBuilder to compare the results ?

    Hi Alan,

Yes, this would be a great idea.

The Learning ReportBuilder application is a good resource for beginners to
learn the basics of using the actual ReportBuilder tool. The Developer's
Guide is better for software developers looking to add ReportBuilder
    functionality to their own applications.

When defining a Calculated field from Query Designer (select Calc tab),
most of the tutorials use to double click the Company field to define a
    Calculated field, why ?

  • edited November 2004
    Hello,

When using the Query Designer (in the Data tab), you may add a calculated
field to the query by either double clicking over the field in the upper
window or by dragging it from the upper window to the lower one. To keep
things consistant the the tutorials instruct to double click the desired
    field to make a calculation.
