Digital Metaphors is currently working on RB for .NET. The project is being approached in phases. The first phase will have the ability to preview and print reports in .NET, while relying on a COM layer to leverage the existing report engine.
RB .NET <----> Page <--> COM/RB VCL Win32
Later phases will port additional subsystems to pure .NET.
The new development is being done in C# using VS, our intention is to support VS and Delphi .NET environments.
Out of interest. do Digital Metaphors have any plans to support VCL.NET?
I guess it's probably too early to commit, but can you give a rough idea of when RB.NET might be ready? We are planning the conversion of our product to .NET (to start in about 6 months or so) and it relies heavily on RB for reporting.
We arrived at our current approach only after working on VCL.NET for over 6 months.
A ReportBuilder for VCL.NET product has been shelved, just prior to completion. There are no plans to release it unless the VCL.NET platform can prove itself capable of building non-trivial applications. The performance and stability of VCL.NET are severly lacking, in our opinion. Digital Metaphors will not release a product that cannot perform up to our expectations and the anticipated expectations of developers and end-users. Thus far we have seen little demand for VCL.NET. We will continue to evaluate VCL.NET going forward.
