Columns/Groups

edited July 2005 in General
Hi

I have a problem with a report which has three columns and a group.

When the group changes the column position does not change. I'd like the
first record of the next
group to be displayed in the first column. Any ideas?

Any help would be appreciated

Stephen

    Hi Stephen,

In the groups dialog (Report | Groups |... option in the designer main
menu), be sure the "Start New Column" option is checked inside the On Group
Change section of the dialog. This will start each group on the first
    column as you described below.

Thanks Nico for the quick response.

I ticked the option to start a new column but now each group is put on a
    seperate page. I'd like
to keep the groups on the same page.

    Here is my group settings:
    Break On: Data Field
    On Group Change:
    Start New Page unticked
    Start New Column ticked
New page when less than 0
    Keep group together unticked
Reprint group headers on subsequent pages unticked
Reprint group headers on subsequent columns unticked

Any help would be very appreciated

    Thanks

I forgot to mention that the column traversal in my detail band is set
    ctLeftToRight

    Hi Steve,

Unfortunately this is a limitation of using horizontal traversing columns in
ReportBuilder. ReportBuilder was originally designed to display data
vertically. The Left to Right traversal feature is very limited in its
features. This is something that we would like to enhance for a later
    release of ReportBuilder.

    Thanks Nico

I think I'll have to re-design my report to use Top to Bottom traversal.

If it's possible could you let me know which release may contain
    enhancements to horizontal traversing.

    Regards

    Steve
