How to get the 7.04 update

edited November 2005 in General
We have both ReportBuilder and ReportServer 7.04. I have just hit a problem
when I installed my app and a new Win2K computer though it is running on 50
others. In effort ot track down the bug, I installed the full development
environment and discovered that the issue is the rbRCL77.bpl. I am unable
to open the form with the report and get an AV accredited to your rbRCL77
bpl. Removing the form permits us to compile and run the application just
fine.

While looking through your newsgroups annoucements, I noticed the 704 had
and update. I have no reason to believe we ever got that update; at least
there is nothing in the version stamp to believe that our install is
anything other then the out of box original. Yet I am unable to find a path
on your web-site for that update.
Coud you provide such a path.

    1. Make sure that you have a default printer driver installed on the
machine. That could cause an issue.

    2. RB 7.04 was the last release for RB 7.x. RB 9.03 contains many fixes and
    enhancements made since RB 7.04.

    The printer was it.
Nard, I know the fiasco was stupid on our part but it could have been
helpful if you could have throw an informative exception.
We contract out to a gentleman who is supposed to fully configure our
workstation for us, then we install the application, test and send to the
customer. In the last few months, we have sent back more than 20
workstations to him telling him it would not run our application.

It wasn't until last night, out of frustration, that I installed the full
environment (not a simple task by no means which is why I have not gone that
route before) and isolated the problem to the Report BPL. For weeks we have
tried flashing bios's, turning on and off set up features, compiling special
builds and coming up with very wild theories. Since some workstations would
work and other different, coming from the same vendor whom we control the
hardward (why we no longer use Gateway since they kept switching hardward),
we were all pulling our hair out.

We have the answer but getting here was not easy.

    We are looking at 9.03.

    Thanks

Sorry about that. We have added code to RB so that it can run without a
printer driver being installed. However, it can be difficult to find all the
places in the code that could cause a problem - since RB 7.04 we have fixed
some bugs related to this - I think your app was encountering one of those
bugs. In particular we found some issues with the BarCode component.

    Nard,

I too missed on the release of 7.04. I just checked my install log and see that
I have 7.02. What's in the update? It might cure a problem I have been
having with a dot matrix label that garbles a line of text if it's not
the expected 60 pt size. (I change the font size, once I've calculated
the width of the text and if it's longer than 3.59 inches, I keep
deducting a point until it slims to within the width limit. Nice code,
looks pretty on the preview screen, but it fails abysmally at print
    time.)

RB 7.04 was released in June 2004 - please see the Announcements newsgroup
for details. For each release we post a message to the Announcements
newsgroup and email all registered users. You can email
info@digital-metaphors.com with your serial number and registration info and
request download info. I recommend doing so now - we may not be archiving it
    on our server much longer.

When performing calculations, keep in mind that for the printer, the
resolution is going to be different than for the screen. For the screen the
resolution is typically 96 dpi and for a printer it might be 300 or 600 - it
    varies.
