black printout?

edited January 2006 in General
Hi

Delphi 4
Report Builder

I have a client who can generate and print a variety of reports from our
application with no problems...one report however causes problems when sent
to the printer..it prints just black pages! The on-screen preview is fine.
Any ideas what could be causing this? Other users have no problems, and we
can not replicate it in the office here!

The report is non user-editable and so they couldn't have have messed it up
somehow themselves!

Thanks in advance for your time.

Glenn

    Hi Glenn,

Image processing in ReportBuilder was enhanced for RB 7.04 which almostly
completely removed all cases of the "black image" problem. You will need to
upgrade to this version or later to fix the problem.

Fine, I'm happy to upgrade from 6.00, but isn't there something I can edit
in the report to sort it out now? All other reports work as expected and
have done for years, there is just this one occurrence, ps there are no
images in the report, just text

    Thanks

    Hi,

We have just noticed this problem with one of our reports as well. We
are using RB 6.03 with Delphi 5.

Just a couple of unrelated questions
Is there a way of recompiling RB 7.04 to work with Delphi 5?

What major differences between Delphi 5 and later are there (to not
cause Delphi 5 support in later versions)?

    Hi Glenn,

Sorry, it appears I mis-read your first post. You mention that this only
happens with one report, what is different about this report compared to
others? What type of printer are you printing to? Are you using the latest
version of the printer driver available?

    Hi Jaweed,

Are you having an issue with full pages printing black or just certain
images printing black? The full black pages issue is not known and is
probably due to a driver confliction. As for the black images issue. RB
    7.04 does support Delphi 5.

    Hi Nico,

Our problem is the same as Glenn's with whole black pages. There really
isn't anything different about this report (except for different fields
and data). This issue happens on both our client and on our own printer,
so it has to be report related (and we have made sure that we are using
the latest printer driver). The weird thing is that the first page
prints out fine but subsequent copies are *randomly* printed out as
    whole black pages.

    Thanks

    Hi Jaweed,

The fact that all other reports work correctly and this report does not
leads me to believe that there is something different about this one report
causing the issue. Try removing certain pieces of the report (outer text
objects, event code, etc) and see if you can isolate the item causing the
behavior. You might also want to try downloading the trial version of RB
7.04 for Delphi 5 and see if that fixes the problem.
