Using Clipboard in report viewer

edited January 2006 in General
Hello,

My MD has told me that customers must have access to the data within our
systems and that it is essential that they can copy and paste data from
report previews. I do not know if this is possible and have not seen any way
of doing this. I suggested the report could be saved in another format and
then copied from. He said that was not acceptable and that to be able to
copy and paste from application to application is a fundamental feature that
is required.

Is this possible, and how?

Please help

    Hi Steve,

I'm a bit unlcear about your requirement. Do you want to copy an entire
page displayed in the previewer and paste it into a completely different
application? The previewer can be compared to an application such as
Acrobat Reader (i.e. essentially view and print functionality).

It is however possible to copy components inside the designer and paste them
into a different instance of a designer in a different application. Is this
what you are trying to do? It is also possible to save a snapshot of the
report as an archive file and view it in other applications.

    Hi Nico,
    Thanks for the reply.

The requirement is for the end user to be able to copy parts of a report or
whole page from the preview window into another application (ie word, excel
    etc).

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for the clarification. Although it is a little more involved than
hitting ctrl+c, ctrl+v, it is possible to export your reports from the
preview to other application formats such as Word or Excel using one of the
third party export utilities such as Waler or Gnostice. Currently,
ReportBuilder only natively exports to Archive, Text, and PDF. I would
suggest taking a look at these third party options as some are highly
sophisticated and may allow your users the ability to choose which part of a
    report to export.

    Hi Nico,

    Thanks for the reply.

I do have TExtraDevices. I did mention that reports could be exported to
various formats and then manipulated from there. But my MD was insistant
that users should be able to copy and paste from the report preview window.

I guess from the feedback so far that this is not possible without exporting
the report first to say PDF.

    Steve,

If you go the server route you can publish to the web which puts the output
in a browser window and that can be copied from. The following is the DM
example of such a set up:
