Update policy - serious problem for us - still no D2006 support

edited February 2006 in General
Hi,

As I can see Digital Metaphors wanted our money if we changed our
development IDE. As I can see this is not good for us. We wanted to pay only
if the features of the product are changed. Why didn't you release RB9 for
D2006 (there are no serious problems with porting component from D2005 to
D2006). This way we can use our code in new IDE as soon as possible - all
known component vendors works this way and after you release new version of
Report Builder we decide if we wanted to buy upgrade.

Now we have D2006 more than 2 months available and because of the delayed
Report Builder 10 we can not use D2006 to work with. We own many 3rd parties
components (WPTools, wPDF, ImageEn, Developer Express Bars, Grid,
PrintingSystem, TMS Software Diagram Studio, Intraweb, ModelMaker Code
Explorer) and none of them are so much delayed. All of them are available
for D2006. You are still telling that RB10 is around the corner, but its
only words. How long we can not use D2006? And after 10 months Borland
release D2007 and we will wait again? Why?

I can not accept your decision that with new IDE you will release new
version of Report Builder. You are not able to release new version (if it
should be stable and completely tested) in time of releasing new IDE.

If you release RB9 for D2006 before 2 months all customers will be happy and
you will have enough time to finished RB10. If I spear my time with
converting all ReportBuilder reports to FastReport I will now have working
solution.

So tell me why I should wait for RB10, than RB11... if there is competition
on the market which has good product and much better update policy. I am
pressed from you to make the switch.

Sorry for the longer messege, but I have this feeling and I think that it is
feedback for you. You are loosing status of the leader on the market. Change
it or I and maybe others will go to competition.

If somebady agree with me, please respond to this message, to show
DigitalMetaphors, that the current situation is unacceptable for more of us.

    Hi, All

I too think that the v9.x should support the BDS2006, simply because for
those that use the standard version can use it (just by recompiling) those
of us which use the enterprise (use of RAP) can?t do it (and its a very
    expensive version).

Neverteless thanks for your great work, RB rocks

    Yes, I agree.

I've reluctantly upgraded 3 times in 3 years. Too much!

    I agree too.
    RB9 must support D2006 !
I can not accept to buy an update each year !
Sorry Digital Metaphor but if you refuse to do something it's the last
time I buy an update !
I will try myselt to make RB9 D2006 complient.

Hmmm, I stopped upgrading and stayed with 7.04 because RB 9 doesn't
suppoert Delphi 5 anymore. We are now on the step to migrate to D2006 and
so I had saved some dollars because Upgrade 7 to 10 is the same price.

It's good for me, but it seams to be very unfair to others.

Just to play devil's advocate - DM have to continue to get revenue somehow?
