Printing Bar Code Certification

edited June 2006 in General
Do you know if the bar code printing is certified? What we are finding
in the PS Form 109 of July 2005 is that "Customers that print bar codes
on special services forms/labels must register with the USPS."

Until now, we were not aware of the USPS PostNet barcode certification
program. I Googled and found some information on it.

There are two types of certification

    Vendor certification
    ---------------------
Vendor certification is for manufacturers of printers and software. We are
going to pursue getting RB certified. My only question is whether they will
certify a programming tool. I suppose they can certify that RB can produce
correct PostNet barcodes. (However, because it is a programming tool, you
can also use it to produce garbage).

    Special Services Forms/Labels
    --------------------------------
Customer certification is for customers that print barcodes on special
services forms/lables. This type of certification can be pursued, regardless
of whether RB is certified. Even if we get RB certified, this type of
certification will still be required, because you can use RB to print any
type of form/label (i.e. the layout, paper size, etc are all customizeable).
