Install problems 10.5

edited January 2007 in General
After I installed 10.5 BDS 2006, all updates, becomes unstable.

I get a cannot load package
d:\borland\bds\4.0\AddOns\RBuilder\lib\dclDAD1010.bpl on Delphi start
up.

If I select yes or no to load it on start up question I then get a
series of AV's in dclRBU1010.bpl,
dclRBBDE1010.bpl,dclRBADO1010.bpl,dclRBIBE1010.bpl, dclRBE1010.bpl,
dclRAP1010.bpl, dclRBS1010.bpl, dclRBC1010.bpl, dclDAD1010.bpl.

None of the components appear in the component pallette.

I did a complete uninstall before doing the update. I need my system
back!

    Hi Mike,

You should not need to do an uninstall before installing a new version of
ReportBuilder. The installation program will uninstall for you. Try
performing a corrupt install cleanup and reinstall ReportBuilder and see if
    that helps the issue.

    --------------------------------------------
Article: Cleaning up a Corrupt Installation
    --------------------------------------------

If you have been advised by Digital Metaphors technical support that you may
have a corrupt installation, or if you are having difficulty installing,
compiling or running applications after a ReportBuilder install, then it may
be necessary to manually remove all ReportBuilder files from your system.
Corrupt installations usually result when you are installing over a previous
version of ReportBuilder which was not installed into the default directory,
which was recompiled from the source, or when ReportBuilder files were
manually moved from the default install location. Cleaning up a corrupt
installation, consists of locating all ReportBuilder related files, and
deleting them from your system. The first step is to use the uninstall
program to remove as much of ReportBuilder as possible.

    Run the uninstall program

    1. Exit Delphi, and all other applications. You should have no applications
running except the uninstall, otherwise you may lose some of your work.

    2. Select Start | Settings | Control Panel from your Windows desktop.

    3. Double-click the Add/Remove programs icon.

    4. Locate the version of ReportBuilder you wish uninstall and double-click
    it.

    5. The first page of the Uninstall Wizard allows you to choose between an
Automatic or Custom uninstall. Choose Custom and click the Next button.

    6. Click the Select All button, then the Next button. Repeat these steps
until you reach the last page of the wizard.

    7. Click the Finish button. All of the items you selected will be removed
    from the system.

    8. After all the ReportBuilder files are removed, you may be prompted to
reboot the system. If this is the case, reboot the system.

Delete the ReportBuilder root directory (and all subdirectories)

    1. Using the Windows Explorer, locate the ReportBuilder root directory. The
    default directory is:

    C:\Program Files\Borland\DelphiX\RBuilder

    2. Once you have located this directory, inspect it. If you have any custom
work in this directory which you would like to keep, move it to another
    directory.

    3. Delete the ReportBuilder root directory.

    Delete all remaining ReportBuilder files

    1. Using the Windows Explorer, search the entire hard drive for all
    occurrences of:

    dclRB*.bpl
    dclRB*.dcp
    rb*.bpl
    rb*.dcp

    2. Delete any occurrences which correspond to the version you are removing.
All packages are named with the convention NN, where the first number
is the ReportBuilder version and the second number is the Delphi version.
Thus, a typical package name for Delphi 5 would be rbRCL45.bpl. The same
package for Delphi 4 would be: rbRCL44.bpl. Check Installing ReportBuilder
for a list of the packages associated with each version.

    3. Using the Windows Explorer, search your hard drive for all occurrences
    of:

    pp*.*
    da*.*
    ra*.*

    4. These are the prefixes used by individual ReportBuilder units. 'pp' is
used for ReportBuilder units, 'da' is used for DADE units, and 'ra' is used
for RAP units. Depending on which ReportBuilder you have (Standard,
Professional or Enterprise) you may not have all of these unit types.

    Additional Notes

    1. Never have Delphi running when installing ReportBuilder.

    2. All ReportBuilder related files should be stored in the root directory
    $(DELPHI)\RBuilder.

    3. All ReportBuilder run-time packages should be stored in the
    Windows\System directory.

    4. You should never have ReportBuilder files in Delphi\Lib, Delphi\Bin or
    Delphi\Projects\Bpl.

    Mike,

You are not alone on this one. I've installed this 3 times so far and I get
the same result. I've even gone through the corrupt installation cleanup
twice attempting to get it to work correctly with no luck.

    Hi Terry,

Which edition of ReportBuilder are you installing? What are the exact
updates you made to your 2006 installation? Are you changing the default
installation in any way? (for example, are you installing into a different
directory than the default \BDS\4.0\RBuilder\... directory?). Do you have
any add-on components or utilities that were installed with RB 10.04 still
installed on your machine? Anything else you can tell me about your
environment that will help me reproduce the behavior you are experiencing.

I had the same problem but without the AV. I chose yes to reload. Then
I recompiled dclDAD1010.bpl and it loaded on my next BDS startup

  • edited January 2007
    Nico,

Well, it appears to have corrected itself or one of the other changes that I
did to the system aleviated the problem. The only changes that I made to
the system since my last post was to upgrade to DelphiSpeedUp 2.3 from
version 2.1. I did go back and try the 2.1 version again after it started
working again, so I don't think that was a factor.

I had also tried a few attempts at manually selecting which components to
load at startup via the "Component - Install Packages" function from Delphi.
If this caused the load order of the components to change, that might
explain why the probelm went away.

For reference, the RB related items that I have installed are:
    ReportBuilder Enterprise 10.05
    Pragnaan Export Devices for ReportBuilder
    DBISAM 4 Dade Plugin
    TeeChart 7.08 Pro

After installing RB 10.05, I recompiled the Export Devices and the TeeChart
components before attempting to start Delphi. After I got everything to
load correctly again, the Dade plugin was recompiled.

So, at this point I am up and running but unfortunately don't know what
    actually corrected the issue.

You're lucky to get that far as I haven't been able to download it at all
due to the download speed from the DM site being so slow :)

Me too. Very frustrating. Spent 2 hours trying to get it to work. After
doing the same as Terry I was getting "can't load dclDAD1010bpl. Unable to
unregister component classes" followed by AVs in others as described by
    Mike.

Then, when I went into the install packages and ticked (for example) the
top rb one on the list (DAE) I got the same "Unable to unregister
component classes" message. However, if I ticked the rb Enterprise one
first then I could tick the others OK.

Then I could close and re-open Delphi without problems and all is well
    again.

after all the problems that have been reported in this thread I consider
this update dangerous and will not install it. I would appreciate to see a
comment from DM here other than a tech-tip that is barely related to the
reported problem or a "I'll keep researching". I would expect such an
installation problem that ruins previously installed applications to be on
the very top of the priority list.

    Hi supportteam and others,

Also with 10.5 installation for Delphi 7 I get a "cannot load package"-message
    C:\Program Files\Borland\Delphi7\RBuilder\Lib\dclDAD107.bpl on Delphi start
    up.

When I looked in the folder, the file wasn't there. So I select NO (not loading
    it the next time)
After rebuilding my project everything seems to work fine (hopefully it really
is). The the components appear correctly in the component pallette.

Strange thing however. When I now look in the ..\lib\ folder, the dclDAD107.bpl
    is present???

Please let me know if I need to change anything or that it's OK not loading
    dclDAD107.bpl at Delphi startup.

    Stef

    > I get a cannot load package

BDS2006 Pro english, RB Enterprise 10.05, Update from 10.02 which was
    installed in "D:\Libs\RBuilder"

    Same problems here.
    Update did not work.
Then did a Uninstall followed by a new install. No go.
    Then Uninstall/Cleanup/Install. Not better.

I can enable the packages via "Component/Install packages" if I enable
the "ReportBuilder Enterprise" package first. But after the next start
    the problem is back again.

    So what to do now?

Tried that and works OK. As I said earlier, once I'd done the tick thing

case i wasn't clear (because I went through this process more than once!),
as soon as I got them all ticked I closed Delphi and opened it again and
it opened without errors. Not sure why.

    BTW, using BDS2006.

Hm, does not work for me. Problem is there on every BDS launch. See my

Are you getting the "Unable to unregister component classes" error when
loading? If not it might be something different? Incidentally, I said
'Yes' to loading next time, not sure what difference that makes.

Looks like RB installer needs *TWO* backslashes after the Delphi7
    directory name, like "C:\Programme\Borland\Delphi7\\RBuilder". Then
install works, but Teechart support is broken.

Teechart can be installed by hand by starting the
    RBTeePackageBuilder.exe from the "RBuilder\TeeChart" directory.

Maybe this also helps for Delphi 2006?

In our testing here, we are able to reproduce the following error upon
installing RB 10.05 Server and Enterprise Editions for Delphi 2006.

    'Can't load package c:\program
    files\borland\bds\RBuilder\lib\dcldad1010.bpl.
    Unable to unregister component classes'.

If you encounter this error, please take the steps outlined below to resolve
    it.

In our testing, the error does not occur with RB Standard and Professional
for Delphi 2006. Nor does the error occur with RB 10.05 instllations to
    other Delphi versions - D2005, D7, or D6.

We are continuing to resarch this issue.

    -------------------------------------------
    Steps to Resolving dclDAD1010.bpl error
    -------------------------------------------

Note: Prior to installing, remove any RB add-on packages, custom packages,
    or DADE plug-in packages.

    1. Install RB 10.05

    2. Launch Delphi and ignore the message

    3. Select File | New Forms application

    4. Select Component | Install Packages and scroll to the listing for the
'ReportBuilder Data Access Environment'. Select the checkbox. Prior to
closing the dialog select the Default check box displayed at the lower left.

    5. Close the project

    6. Exit Delphi

    7. Relaunch Delphi
