Delphi '2008' and Unicode support

edited June 2007 in General
Judging from CodeGear's latest roadmap, it seems like the next version of
Delphi after Highlander will finally feature full Unicode support, I'd just
like to strongly encourage you guys to have Report Builder support Unicode
as well when Delphi '2008' for Win32 rolls out.

With Digital Metaphors being a CodeGear technology partner, I'd really hope
that CodeGear will be able to supply you with the required time and
prerequisities well in advance for this transition to take place.

Having Report Builder support Unicode will be a major step forward, and the
only barrier left for us to fully embrace the tool in our own suite of
software.

Thanks,...

We too have been hoping that Borland/CodeGear would add Unicode support to
the Win32 VCL. According to the latest Delphi Roadmap, Delphi "Tiburón", is
scheduled to be released in the first half of 2008 and will include Win32
    Unicode support...

Here is a link to the latest Delphi Roadmap

    http://dn.codegear.com/article/36620

Here is a quote about Unicode suport...

"...The standard string in the Delphi language will become a Unicode string,
meaning that the IDE, the VCL - that is, the entire product - will be
    Unicode-based...."

We are looking forward to learning specific details about the Unicode
implementation and modifying ReportBuilder to embrace the new standard!

    Nard,

That's excellent, thanks for your feedback!

Let's see how much work is entailed as soon as CodeGear gives us the
details. We look forward to upgrading our own software suite too...

    Thanks again,

ps - sorry for the anonymity...

    Nard,

This is great news. Adding unicode support could be a major piece in a
current 'missing link' for one of our applications.

Let's hope they can stay on schedule and that there aren't any obvious
issues with implementing this in our various components and
    applications.
