Barcode printing oddly

edited July 2007 in General
Hi,

Label reports with barcodes used to print fine but now the barcodes are much
larger than they used to be -- overlapping into the adjacent label.

This is on an HP Color LaserJet 4600 using the HP Universal PCL 5 driver on
Vista. I suspect that it might have something to do with the printer driver
because the barcodes look fine when printed to the Microsoft Office Document
Image Writer (Microsoft's "answer" to PDF). I'm not sure when this started.
It could go back to when I first installed Vista on this machine.

Has anyone else experienced problems with HP printer drivers and barcodes?

Thanks,
Danny

    Hi Danny,

Did this behavior start between versions of ReportBuilder or when you
changed to Vista? Have you tried using the printer driver developed for
this specific printer rather than the universal driver?

    Nico,

On further investigation, I find it is not limited to Vista. Running the
same application from our Windows 2003 server console gave me the same
results. That one is using a different printer driver, too (the PCL 6 driver
specific to this printer). The report is previewed to the screen and shows
the same problem so it's not just the printer itself. I suspect it might
have happened when we upgraded to the current version of RB.

    Thanks,
    Danny

    Hi Danny,

Which version of ReportBuilder did you upgrade from? Are you able to
recreate this with a simple example I could run on my machine? If so,
please send the example to support@digital-metaphors.com in .zip format and
I'll take a look at it for you.
