edited September 2007 in General
Hi,

RBInstallhelper.exe utility provided by RBuilder.

I run RBInstallHelper MergeRBuilderHelp in cmd prompt running in

working" and the details are:

I am using the trial version of 10.06 running on Vista and Delphi 2007.
I also has .NET 1.1 and .NET 1.1 SDK installed on my machine.

I was just about to post this problem too, guess you beat me to it.

I could not install the RBHelp (RBInstallHelper.exe ) to integrate with
Delphi Help either. My conditions :

    - RBuilder V10.06 Professional Trial
    - Delphi 2007 for Win 32
    - Vista Ultimate 64bit
    - Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 SDK (x64) ENU

I ran RBInstallHelper.exe as administrator. A cmd prompt windows flashes on
screen then closes. Nothing happens after that.

Appreciate if someone can help with this. I currently use the RBuilder.pdf
but a component reference will be much faster.

    Hi Gregory,

RBHelpInstaller is a command line application. You will need to run it from
the command line as the administrator with the proper parameters to manually
merge the RB Help into the BDS namespace. Simply run the app without any
parameters to see the usage instructions.

    Hi Chee Yang,

We have not seen this behavior before. Is there perhaps some virus or other
security software that could be stopping the merge process? Try disabling
all security software temporarily and re-merging the help. Which edition of
ReportBuilder are you trying to install?

I am trying the 10.06 professional trial version download today. I run
the RBHelpInstaller from cmd prompt running in administrator mode on
    windows vista business.

However, I manage to install DevExpress help files wit H2Reg and it can
merge into Delphi 2007 help system.

Did you get the same error when you installed ReportBuilder? Try
reinstalling ReportBuilder and see if the help merges correctly. The
RBInstallHelper does not use H2Reg to merge the help files into the BDS
namespace. Have you tried disabling any security software? In my testing
with RB 10.06, Delphi 2007 and Vista Ultimate, the RBInstallHelper works
    correctly.

    Hi Nico,
First I tried uninstalling RBuilder and reinstalling again. I keep getting
this error at both un-install and reinstalling : "Microsoft .NET
FrameworkSDK not found". I got this message also the very first time I
installed it but I didn't think much of it then as the components were
successfully installed on the Delphi component pallete. Before installing, I
restarted windows and disabled Antivirus and other security software.

I then ran the command prompt window as admin and ran the
RBInstallHelper.exe with the MergeRBuilderHelp param. I again got the
message "Microsoft .NET FrameworkSDK not found".

Any idea whats wrong ? Could it be because I'm using 64bit version of the
.Net Framework SDK ? I installed other VCL like ElevateDB and the help did
merge corrrectly with the Delphi Help.

    Thanks

    Hi Chee Yang,
Are you using 64bit windows or 32bit ?

    Hi Gregory,

This is an issue that affected some early downloads of RB 10.06. Please
re-download ReportBuilder from our website (using the same download link)
    and re-install the product.

Ah, someone else with the same problem

I got this error back in June (see thread "How do you manually install
help (RB10.06/D2007 Update 1)??", 7-8th June) but never managed to get
    the help installed.

Worked on one machine OK but not on another (both 32bit Vista
    Ultimate).

Gave up trying in the end and resorted to opening the standard
RBUILDER.HLP file when I needed to.

I've just tried RBInstallhelper again after installing D2007 Update 3
but still get the same error.

    Hi Cary,

We realize that this is a problem that effects more than one person however
please understand that it is nearly impossible for us to track down an issue
we are unable to recreate here on our machines. We have extensively tested
the Help installer with numerous Vista machines and have yet to see the
    behavior described.

The fact that you got it working on one machine is a good sign. How is this
machine's setup different from the machine that does not successfully merge
the help? Perhaps if we can single out the differences, we can track down
    the main issue.

Oh, I understand perfectly Nico and I apologise if what I said was
taken as a negative response directed at Digital Metaphors, none was
meant. I'm sure we all have issues where our software works perfectly
on 99% of installs but there's always a very small minority where we
    have problems.

As far as the two machines are concerned - in my view they are
"identical" apart from the hardware (1 desktop and 1 laptop) and
    non-development software.

*Vista 32 Ultimate with all updates installed
    *Logged on as Administrator
    *Delphi 7 Arch. installed
*Delphi 2007 Ent. installed (with Upgrade 1)
*RB 10.06 Ent. + a load of other 3rd party components

All development software is installed with exactly the same settings
right down synchronising most registry settings in the
HKCU\Software\Borland\BDS\5.0 structure and synchronising BPLs in
windows\system32 so that I can easily switch to my laptop when I'm on
    the road.

For me, it's no big issue, I think you said at the time I should try
and re-install RB but I'd prefer to wait until I need to do a full
rebuild of the desktop and see if it works after that. Anyway,
old-style RBUILDER.HLP is there when I need it.

    Regards,
    Cary.
