Tutorial/trial downloaded - where is the database

edited January 2008 in General
Just downloaded the tutorials and trial version.
However, how do I start the 'Introduction' in the tutroials? Where is the
database I can connect to?

    Hi Alan,

The tutorials and demos included with ReportBuilder all use the DBDEMOS
database that is included with Delphi. In most cases, it should connect
automatically however the database files are located in the
    \ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\(Borland/Codegear) Shared\Data\... directory. The
data files needed to run the end-user demos are located in the
    RBuilder\Demos\Data\... directory.

    It is a bit strange.
The tutorial 'A Quick Test Spin' seems not complete:
It does not say about 'Data Settings...'. Actually this is the first step to
    begin the tutorial.

I got D7 Enterprise, when I select 'Data Settings...', I choose DBDemo.
Then finish and goto Query Wizard, to choose the tables from I got only
    Address
    DBOLE
    Person
    TestData.

There is no 'Customer' table as mentioned in the tutorial.

    Any password of the DBDemo?

    Hi Alan,

I took a look at the "A Quick Test Spin" tutorial. I'm a bit confused about
what you mean by the "Data Settings", this tutorial does not use DADE. The
tutorial asks you to create a new application, place a TTable on the form
and connect it to the DBDEMOS database. Then continue to place a
TDataSource, TppDataPipeline, and TppReport (connecting each of them) to the
form and load the designer. This is the simplest form of an application
    that uses RB.

The DBDEMOS database is installed with the default installation of Delphi
and the BDE. There is no password needed to access this data.

    Hi Nico,

I am also confused that in what pages as you mentioned the tutorial asked me
to put TTable on the form? I cannot find it on the 'A Quick Test Spin'.

I was following the page 3, on the right column 'Getting Started'. I would
think my tutorial will be the latest tutorial as I downloaded it just couple
of days ago from your website.

    Hi Alan,

I think you may be using the LearnRB PDF document. For an installed version
of ReportBuilder, you need to use the full Developer's Guide located in the
\RBuilder\Developer's Guide\... directory. This was installed to your hard
    drive when you installed ReportBuilder.

If you would like to use LearnRB, you can download it from our website.
Note that this is a stand-alone application that includes a PDF guide to
walk you through its tutorials (which are similar to the tutorials provided
in the Developer's Guide). LearnRB is great for end-users learning RB.

Yes, I am reading the pdf from LearnRB.
So as a Delphi developer, I should read the developer guide?

  • edited January 2008
In addition, any main differences between this latest RBuilder.PDF and the
one that I downloaded 2 years ago?

    Yes.

If you use the Developer's Guide installed with ReportBuilder you will have
the latest version. We constantly update the developer's guide.
