Update patch for 'Floating Point Overflow'

edited January 2008 in General
Hi Digital-Metaphors,

As floating point overflow error is not uncommon to the old RB version, why
don't you create a patch for the old version to fix it?

    Alan:

I'm don't work for Digital Metaphors, but can give this my best shot.

The 3rd party marketplace for Delphi is not a large market, and the old
hopes of it one day becoming more significant are less and less. Any company
in this market must be efficient to stay competative--they are fighting for
their share of a small pie.

Maintaining old versions, and fixing the bugs in them is expensive and very
time consuming (testing, re-testing)--which bugs should they fix or remain
in them? And which version--6, 7, 8, 9...? Rather then moving forward, any
company could spend hours, days, weeks, months fixing bugs in old versions
and not having the new features that make their product competative with
    other reporting tools.

I would recommend you look at upgrading to the latest version--this will
most probably address the issue and will provide the support for an
    excellent product.

Any idea how much market share Delphi has in the programming tools
    environment?
I am sure MS Visual Studio to be the biggest?

Yes, VS is much larger then Delphi. I'm seriously concerned about the future
of Delphi, given some of the management decisions in the past--and more
concerned about the 3rd party market--that is why I try to support them as
much as I can--they are very important to my business.

I thought Delphi is second to VS but no idea how small percentage Delphi
has? 10% of the programming tools market?
But anyway, DM has done a great job in report generating.

I agree--and would recommend getting the latest version :-)
