Any plans for enabling the printing of PDF's inside a Report ?

edited December 2010 in General
Hi

I know this has been asked before and as I understand it currently there is
no way of printing PDF's within a report short of converting them to
RichText or some sort of image. Which is what we do.

So I thought I would ask the question as to whether this is something you
are planning for a future release ? as I am constantly being asked by our
customers whether this will ever be possible.

Most of our customers are Engineering firms of one sort or another and they
regularly scan A4 drawings, technical specifications etc.. of their
customers products to PDF files for internal use. These scans then ideally
should be included as part of the printed Production Documentation. They get
around the problem at the moment by scanning everything twice but this
obviously creates a lot of extra work, particularly when you are doing
hundreds a day.

Thanks

Stuart

    Hi Stuart,

This is a feature we would like to add for a future release of
ReportBuilder. As you can tell by the complexity of the currnt PDF device,
creating a component that reads PDF content would be a major feature that
could be extremely difficult to develop. It would be nice if there was a
pre-made component we could use or if Embarcadero provided one :).

Thanks for you feedback, it is very helpful and important to us and we will
use it to determine which features we research and add to later releases of
    ReportBuilder.

I compare this to ReportBuilder's support for RTF. The ReportBuilder
RichText component is a wrapper for the Delphi's TRichEdit, which itself is
a wrapper for the Windows RichEd.dll. There are also Delphi third-party
add-ons such as TRichView and WPTools that have ReportBuidler wrapper
components for their rich text controls.

Adobe Acrobate has an ActiveX interface but it does not provided the
necessary control, it basically just let's you display acrobat reader on a
form. I think Gnostice has a Delphi PDF toolkit, you might email them and
ask them about developing an RB add-on - they are familiar with our product.
I will email them as well.
