Tips to build a complex report

edited February 2013 in General
Hello Nico and Friends.

We're writing this because we've to develop a report that must a kind of
"mix" of another reports. OK, I'll explain it better.

Nowadays we've a simple report that have some columns, and the data come
from our database. However we've to print another 7 totally different
reports together with this one. And, to get it worse, one of that has
landscape page style.

We really need some tips of what is the best way to implement it. We want to
built it and let works properly.

We seek in your wiki, but unfortunatly we can't find.

Anyway, can you help us?

If this text was not helpful for you, please contact us again. Maybe we can
send you more details.

    Hi Eliseu,

This type of report can be created with a number of Section style
    subreports.

    1. Create a new report with a detail band only. This will be your main
    report.

    2. Add a section style subreport for each of the 8 reports you would
    like to print together.

    3. Load each report into each section subreport in the order you would
    like them to print.

Note that each section subreport acts as its own report. You can change
the printer setup as needed for each one (i.e. portrait/landscape).

    Hi Nico, all fine.
Nico, one more doubt about my doubt.
Exist an automatic way in Report Builder component to reproduce the same
header from main report in the subreports? Or if I want the same header, I
have to create it individually in the subreport?

    Thanks,

    Regarts,

    Eliseu Corrona.

    Hi Eliseu,

Section subreports act as completely separate reports so there is no way
to have a single header for all pages. One option is to place a Child
subreport in the header of each Section, then load a standard template
representing the header for the entire report. This way you will only
need to change the single template if you want to alter the header
rather than each header for each section.

Hi Nico, thanks for your answer.
Sorry for so many questions but it is necessary, we are creating the report
    is somewhat complex.

Relative your answer, about creating a child subreport in each subreport to
represent a single header I understood. Just not clear for me, how to load
the default template header, with you commented. Could you explain this
again? Maybe, give me an example?

Another question that I would ask to you, is just the level of information
if the Report Builder supports this feature.

It follows. Our application works with Runtime Packages, we have 8 reports
separate on 8 packages. Now, we will create a new package that prints from
one place all these 8 reports. The question is: reportbuilder have any
option where I can engage differents TppReport in one TppReport? I know the
idea is complex, it is even more to know.

We have previously solution for this problem, but I wonder if this feature
that I questioned already exists or may become a reality.

Thanks friend. Thankful in advance for your attention.

    Hi Eliseu,

See the following article on standard header and footers.

I'm a bit confused about what you are trying to accomplish with multiple
reports. Are you trying to assign one report to another? One option
might be to save each report as a template file then load them in the
single report object of your main report.

Hi Nico, I'll check your tip. Thanks.
About the accomplish report, is it if you wrote. The idea is in unique
TppReport, add other. But is only a idea. Our solution is print the 8
reports in sequence. Other solution is your tip, also had thought of that
    possibility.

Nico, thanks again for your help.
