Unnecessary save prompt in Designer (15.03)

Load a report (DADE), do nothing, load another and you get prompted to
save changes to the previous (unmodified) report. Completely repeatable
with EndUser Paradox demo.

Not a biggie but will result in support calls from end users.

Hi Paul,

Sorry for the delay in this response.

The templates being loaded in the EndUser demo are being updated from an
older version each time they are accessed. When an older template is
loaded, it is automatically updated with new properties and values of
the version being used. This is why ReportBuilder is asking to save the
modified report.

If you save and reload each template, the message should no longer appear.

Paul,

I create a patch for RB 15.03 that resolves the issue. Registered RB 15.03
developers can email support@ and request the patch.

Nico and I each tested this and were unable to reproduce the issue. I went
back and researched it further from the standpoint that there must be
additional steps required. Eventually I discovered if I load template one,
preview template one, and then try to open template two I receive a prompt
to save template one. Tracing in the debugger, I think this has probably
been the case for years.

Hello Nard,

Since applying that patch if I make changes to a report, preview it and
then close the designer, I'm not prompted to save changes.

Thanks Nard, that's solved that problem. However, while your mind is in
this area of the code I still think that there is another issue:

1. Load a report, make a change, don't save.
2. Load a different report, get prompt to Save first report before
second one loads. Good. Say NO and second report loads.
3. Make no changes to second report (say I picked the wrong one) and
load another report and you are prompted to save the unedited second
report. So it seems the NO response to the first save prompt is not
clearing some global "ReportEdited" flag.

As a developer I know how annoying these little "not quite solved"
glitches can be, so I feel your pain

I tested this repeatedly and did not encounter any issues. Keep in mind that
when reports created with prior versions are opened, RB may perform
conversion logic that modifies the report. If this occurs, the Designer will
prompt to save.
