Updating display format

We are using Delphi 6 and Rb 7 pro. One of our clients ran our program and
wanted to change the displayFormat for a field of type double. The existing
format displayed 2 decimal places while the client wanted 4. We then
updated the decimal places through the designer which we call from our
program. Even though in the designer the format showed 4 decimals the
preview always showed 2 decimal places.
The only way we could get around the problem was to delete the field and add
it again to the report with the new display format of 4 decimal places. This
seemed to have solved the problem.
Is this is only way to accomplish this or did we just experience one of
those odd instances were nothing works except deleting and adding again?

In my testing with Delphi 6 and RB 7.03, using our End-User demo, everything
seemed to work correctly. Are you able to recreate this behavior using one
of our demo applications? If so, let me know the exact steps you took and
I'll try to recreate it on my machine. Feel free to send an example of your
