PDF does not show some elements in different Reader versions

edited June 2013 in Devices
Hello,

Recently a customer complained that a report that has been exported as
PDF does not show some texts when the PDF was loaded in Acrobat Reader
Version 9.5.x. The same PDF loaded in newer versions (e.g. Ver.XI) of
the reader show everything as it should be.

When opening the PDF with Reader V 9.x an erro dialog is diplayed,
telling the user that the page has errors and will likely not be
displayed correctly (in newer versions it loads without an error message)

The PDF files have been created using RB 14.08.

Any hints what could cause such an error in Reader V9.5.x?

Our customer has sent us the original PDF, created with RB 14.08 and two
scanned PDF files showing the documents printed with Reader 9 and
printed with Reader 10 (to show the difference).

If it helps i could send you these sample files (i only need to know to
which mail address i should send them)

Thanks in advance,
Ralf

    Hi Ralf,

We have not seen this behavior before. Please send an example
application that creates a PDF with errors for Acrobat 9.x and I'll run
some tests here with both versions. Send the example in .zip format to
    support@digital-metaphors.com.

    Hi Nico,

That will be a litte bit complicated. The application that exports the
PDFs is quite big and complicated. On the other hand the problem seems
to be related to the data that is displayed inside the report. And the
data is currently only available on the customers system.

I have tried to break the problem down to a simple programm that uses no
database but i did not have success so far reproducing the problem with
    such a test scenario.

All i can provide are the PDF files the cusomer sent us, showing the
problem. Would these samples help to come a little closer to the cause
of the problem or do you really need a sample program that reproduces
    the effect?

    Ciao,
    Ralf

    P.S.
Anyway, for the moment we recommended to update the used Acrobat viewer
to the customer (version 9.x is somewhat old and old Acrobat reader
version may be a security risk, we told them)

    Hi Ralf,

I will take a look at the PDF files however unfortunately the files
alone will not give me very much information about what is happening.
Even small reports can have hundreds or even thousands of PDF objects in
    the exported PDF file.
