Problems with RB Server Windows Service Application
Hello all,
I had posted this question a while back but never got it to working
properly.
I am having trouble with the RB Services application provided in RB Server.
I get the following error:
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( RBWinServices ) cannot be
found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or
message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following
information is part of the event: Service failed on start: Access is denied.
This is on a Windows 2000 SP3 Server running IIS.
The RB Server application I made will run fine starting on it's own, but it
will not work when I try to run it as a service using the Rb Services app.
The 1333 port is free and no other apps are using it.
I am running the service under an account that I use to run other services.
It also has rights to log on as a service under that local system policy.
So I know the account is ok to use.
So I see no reason why it should not run.
I had tried all the steps that had been listed in the news group prior with
my past message.
Any help would be great.
Thanks,

By default RBWinServices is installed to run under the Local System account.
Test this base conifiguration to see whether that works.
When RBWinServices is installed, it installs a very basic sample report
server. When you do the test above, just test with the sample report server.
You can run a client report app against it. The sample report server does
not require a database.

I tried running the service under the Local System account and using the
sample report server, and I got the same result. I get the same error
message in the Event Viewer of my server as noted below.
Thanks for the quick reply,
Clinton Cooper
- check that you have Administrator rights when installing ReportBuilder
Services.
- after installion, access the Services control panel and select the entry
for ReportBuilder Services. Check the properties.
We have not had any other reports of issues related to installing and
running ReportBuilder Services, so I am just trying to think of anything
that might cause the issue...
