RB 6.02 and TeeChart 5.02

edited September 2001 in General
Hello,

We've purchased TeeChart 5.02 and are trying to use it with ReportBuilder
6.02 for Delphi 6. Following the readme.doc in ..RBuilder\TeeChart, I am on
step 7, trying to compile the rbTC66.dpk package. When I try to compile it,
I get an error that ppChDPEd.dcu cannot be found. This file is only in the
Tee60, not the Tee66 folder. What do I need to do to get this working?

Secondly, I was reading through the remainder of the readme file, and when
it comes to the copying section, I took a look and those files that it is
saying to copy already exist in the destination folders. Do I still need to
proceed with these instructions?

One last thing to note is that when I go to Component | Install Packages in
Delphi, the dclRBC66.bpl is installed, but every time I check dclTee56.bpl
and dclTep56.bpl to include them, it gives no errors, but the next time I
open Delphi they revert to being unchecked (still no errors). I'm not sure
if this is related to being unable to follow the instructions above, or if
this is even a ReportBuilder issue. If someone can just point me in the
right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
Natalie

I found the same problem, it seems like D6 doesn't save the last changes to
the Component | Install Packages, if I configure them manually. I had to
check Default in that dialog, and then closed Delphi. Then when I went back
into Delphi, it loaded with my latest changes to the installed packages list
    amd no errors.

    Hi Jim,

Are you saying that this is the reason why I can't compile the packages? Or
is this just related to not getting the packages to stay loaded? Is it
normal that there are no components listed in the dclRBC66.bpl package? I
finally got this one to stay loaded in the package list. I still can't
compile the packages. Do I still need to follow the steps in the readme.doc
to use TeeChart 66 if the files that it says to copy are already in the
    destination directory?

If you select to install Teechart support in the installation program, then
the proper RBTeechart files are installed for you automatically. If you
have the proper files already in the correct locations, then you don't have
to follow the readme. The readme describes how to upgrade your RBTeechart
packages without having to reinstall RB.

The problem I encountered was that I when I opened Delphi, it would not load
the packages which I had correctly installed during the last session of
Delphi that I was running. I had to click Default for them to be saved so
they were loaded the next time.

    Hi Jim,

Okay; I'm clear on that process with the readme file now. My original
problem was that I am trying to upgrade a D5/Tee Chart 4/RB 5.56 report to
D6/Tee Chart 5.02/RB 6.02. When I try to compile the project I am getting an
error: "Field frmMyForm.PieSalesByProduct does not have a corresponding
component. Remove the declaration?" PieSalesByProduct is a TPieSeries. At
first I thought it was because I did not follow the readme instructions, so
I tried doing that. I see now that I don't need to do that since I installed
    RB with the TeeChart support.

I am not sure if this is a RB issue or TeeChart issue, so any guidance is
    appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Natalie

It sounds like Delphi is not able to associate the PieSalesByProduct from
the dfm to the TppTeeChart object on the form. I think that the problem is
that Teechart somehow isn't installed in Delphi 6 correctly? Can you create
a new report in Delphi 6? What exact version of Teechart did you have
    installed in D5?

I just create a report in RB5.56 with Teechart 4. I looked at the form to
see that it had a TppTeechart and a TPieSeries. I then opened this project
up in RB 6.02 for D6 and with Teechart 5.02. The form opened up just fine
with no errors, and also opeinng the report to see that it converted
correctly, and everything was in fact there.

    Hi Jim,

It's been several days, but I was out of the office. I have tried getting
help from TeeChart on this issue and still no progress. I am still not
certain if it is a TeeChart issue or ReportBuilder issue. I have reinstalled
TeeChart with exact instructions from TeeChart support, and am still getting
the error. I was using TeeChart 4.03 in D5. I even got a new machine,
installed D6, TeeChart 5 and RB 6.02 and still the same problem. TeeChart
support said that RB will not support TeeChart until the official TeeChart
version, but that has changed, right?

Perhaps I didn't configure the TeeChart in the report the same as yours.
Can you send a sample report that shows this conversion problem when opened
    with D6, RB 6.02, and Teechart 5.02 to support@digital-metaphors.com

    Hi Jim,

Thanks for your continued help. I am going to try to create a small project
that demonstrates the problem. As a side note, I just got an email from
TeeChart support stating that they thought DM was not going to support
TeeChart until the released version, and their attempts to get TeeChart 5.01
and RB 6.02 working in D6 were unsuccessful also. I am a tad confused.

Create a new report with a chart, in RB6.02 using TeeChart 5.02 in D6 and
recompile- this would be the fist test to make sure that it is working
correctly before testing the conversion of an older report.

    Hi Jim,

Apparently, there's something wrong with the TeeChart that we purchased. The
Tee5New project won't even compile. TeeChart support is trying to help us
    out.
