Enterprise to Server upgrade cost (expensive)
Hi
The upgrade cost for this seems prohibitively expensive. I could have
upgraded RB6 Enterprise to RB7 server for the same amount it will now cost
me to upgrade my RB7 Ent to RB7 Server AFTER I already upgraded (ages ago)
from RB6 Ent to RB7 Ent.
It's not that RB7 Server is particularly expensive, only that this
particular upgrade seems to be making people pay twice for the same thing.
Most of the other upgrade pricing seems to be the difference in cost of the
two things plus a small amount for the inconvenience, but this one is MUCH
more than that.
It's a pity really, because I need two developer licenses and may be buying
anything up to 8 or 10 deployment licenses if everything goes well.
Perhaps I shouldn't have posted this publicly, but I wonder what other
people think.

Thanks for your interest in RB Server. This issue was discussed in these
newsgroups at the time RB Server was released.
ReportBuilder Server is a separate product from RB Enterprise. RB Server
installs into a separate directory and includes its own set of demos, help
files, Developers Guide, etc.
Download a trial version and evaluate the product based upon its merit. The
product is worth every penny - I promise you that. It enables developers to
build a first class, high performance server solution in a single day.
Development costs to do this on your own would be thousands of man
hours.Compare it to Crystals Server and other competitors.
ReportBuilder Server Edition currently includes a license to RB Enterprise.
This may change in the future.

Yes, I agree with all your points (and of course I'm shooting myself in the
foot by admitting I'm almost certain to buy anyway).
But I still think that if you look at all the upgrade prices, this one is
expensive, and out of line with all the others. I certainly wish I'd just
upgraded to Server when I upgraded to 7 from 6. I'd have saved a fortune.
(6Ent to 7Server exactly same price as 7Ent to 7Server - is that right?).
Regards
Stuart

Yes, there is an incentive in place to entice customers into upgrading to RB
Server rather than updating their Enterprise license - and many customers
have been doing just that. (I am very sorry that you did not notice this
before now).
