Sorting a detail

edited August 2002 in General
I want to be able to sort the detail band of a subreport by a field I
created in the datapipeline through a calculation. Since I created this
field I cannot sort the records of this datapipeline in the query design
sort tab because only existing datafield values may be sorted. What is the
best way to sort records on the calculated field.

Thanks in Advance.

Are you using RB 6.03? I believe older versions of RB didn't allow this.
We've added functionality in order to let you sort by a calc field in the
visual query designer. Contact info@digital-metaphors.com to upgrade to the
    latest version.

I have version 5.0. It is not possible for us to upgrade to RB 6.03 at this
time. Any other suggestions. I know this is also possible if I edit the SQL
for the datapipeline and add the Order by clause. However, going by this
approach would mean that I can no longer use the visual query designer.

    Thanks in Advance.

You option is to upgrade or edit the SQLText property. Personally, I would
upgrade to RB 6.03 to use this feature. If you edit the dataviews SQL text,
then when you upgrade to the latest version of RB, you will have to recreate
those dataviews for those reports to take advantage of this feature.
