A template for all reports

edited August 2002 in General
I am starting using RB and coming from Quick Report.

There I developed many reports (not very complicate but many) which are
derived from one master report (the form is inherited).
This give me the possibility to create easyly reports which are look like
same. Also whe I want to change the release number or a logo I only do this
only once.

Is that also possible with RB?

    Hi Nicolas,

I had the same problem and I created some basic layouts with just the header
and the footer which should stay the same in every report. Then, when I
wanted to create a report, I just opened one of them and saved it as a new
report. Then I could add all data components.
I don't think there is another way for an end user. You could write your own
end user app which automatically creates this layout though. Just depends on
    what you want to do.

    1. You can use form inheritance to create a report with a standard header
    and footer.
    a. Do not place the data access components in the ancestor form.
    b. Do not mix form inheritance and report templates though.

    2. Another approach is to use the dynamic subreport loading technique as
shown in the End User demos directory.
