Service Not Always Restarting Report Server

Hello

My report server is controlled by the report builder service the service is
running windows 2003. An error occured within my server (Invalid Pointer
Operation) which stopped the report server

However, the service has not restarted my report server. Anyone come
across anything like this before?

As you can see, there is over 2 minutes between the report server crashing
with the error and being restarted - this restart was done manually by me

- this is not a known issue

- look in the windows Event Viewer | Application log and see whether any
events were log by RBWinServices.

- do you know what caused the Invlaid Pointer Operation?

I have been unable to reproduce the Invalid pointer error

However I did try deliberatley raising an invalid pointer error on my own
machine and the service did restart the server straight away. My machine
has Windows XP Pro, the main reporting machine has Windows 2003

The only thing showing in the event log is the service stopping then
starting again - which I did manually

- There are two logs to look at. RB Server has its own log. ReportBuilder
Services (the windows service) logs events to the Windows application log
that can be viewed from the Windows Event Viewer.

- Check for the Windows Event Viewer for the Application log on the machine
where you did the successful test. And then on the other machine. When the
report server encounters an unhandled exception, it will notify
ReportBuilder Services which will write an event to the log.

My guess is that for the case in which the server never restarted,
ReportBuilder Services was not notified. Now why that did not happen is a
complete total mystery.
