Versions : old and new

edited September 2002 in General
Hi,
I know I may be the only person in the world still using RB 3.52, but it
works for me. We are still using Delphi 3.01 too.

Plans to upgrade are being discussed. Before Delphi 7 came along, our
upgrade path was going to be to go to Delphi 5. Our other 3rd party
tools support version 5. Delphi 7 is too new for us and some of our 3rd
party tools don't have version 7 support. ( In fact, delphi 6 support is
still really new ).

In the past, Digital Metaphors have allowed me to upgrade ( I think up
to version 4.23, which was the last version supporting Delphi3 ), so I
have not taken advantage of their free upgrade offers in the past. They
even sent me the RB 6 enterprise update and password, but the link is no
longer valid. ( 15 Nov 2001 ) ;I did not download it because I thought I
needed the Professional version only.

If we decide to move to Delphi 6, does RB 7 support this. Does RB 7
support Delphi 3? Also, can I get RB 6 still.

Thanks

RB 7.0 (the latest) will support Delphi 5, 6 and 7. (Currently only Delphi 6
is supported, but we expect to have D5 support soon.)

You should definitely upgrade now, because upgrade prices go up after
    September 30, 2002.

The download link for RB 4.23 for D3 is still available (4.23 was the last
    version for D3)

    Thanks Tom.

I was wondering if other earlier updates, like to RB6 Pro, still were
available like you said the RB 4.23 link was? I think Delphi 6 will be
our target in the short term. I understand that if we move to delphi 7 ,
8, 9, in the future, we will have to upgrade RB.

The link I received back in Jan 2000 for 4.23 does not work.

The link I was sent for RB6 enterprise in November 2001 also does not work.

Are there updated addresses for these?

    Thanks

Yes, but you need to upgrade to get the link. Right now we are running a
special where you can upgrade Professional Edition from any previous version
to 7.0 for $175. After September 30, 2002 the price will go up to $349 (for
customers who originally purchased before October 31, 2001) So it makes *a
lot* of sense to upgrade now, even if you won't be moving to Delphi 5, 6 or
    7 for a while.

We are no longer selling upgrades to 6.03 (though that would have cost more
    than $175 anyway.)

If you just need RB 4.23 you can contact sales and they would be glad to
    e-mail it to you...

    Hi Tom,
Thanks for the information. I went to the main site to purchase the
update. I was not aware I could get it for $175. We purchased in Nov 1998!!

The site requires we enter our serial number for updates. Our delivery
of 3.51 was via email. I cannot find a serial number mentioned anywhere.
I have searched all email from Digital Metaphors and cannot find a
serial number reference. There are passwords for running the install
program we received, but no serial number.

    How do I find it?

    Thanks

You just e-mail sales@digital-metaphors.com and ask if they can find your
registration records - they should be able to determine your serial no.

Please announce when a D5 version of RB 7 pro is available.

Will it be before the prices go up?? I do hope so.
