Is there anyway to make two columns in the detail band only where the the first column prints till it fills and then go to the second column and print until it fills before another page is printed?

You can set the Report.Columns property to the number of columns you would like to see in the detail band. If for instance you place a dbText component inside this column, it will by default fill the first column, then move to the next column and so on before breaking a page.
If you would like more control over your column spacing, you can use the layout tab in the Page Settings menu option of the designer.
