Delphi 2005
I was just getting ready to upgrade my Delphi 5 Pro license to Delphi 7 so I
could upgrade my RB license, and I see that Borland is now selling Delphi
2005.
Will Delphi 2005 work with RB at this point, or should I find a reseller
that still has Delphi 7?
Thanks,

November at the earliest. Hopefully RB will work with it shortly after
release.

Delphi 2005 is not yet a shipping product. Resellers may be taking orders
now, but can only ship you a product when it is released.
ReportBuilder 7 supports Delphi 7, Delphi 6, and Delphi 5.
Following Borland's release of Delphi 2005, Digital Metaphors will release
ReportBuilder 9.
ReportBuilder 9 will include many new enhancements and will support VCL
Win32 for Delphi 2005, Delphi 7, and Delphi 6.
** Customers purchasing a new license to RB 7 today will receive a free
upgrade.
A ReportBuilder for VCL .NET has been in the works for quite some time.
However, it will not be released unless the VCL .NET framework can prove
itself to be a viable class library for building non-trivial applications.

RB9 for free?
Thanks,
Alan Sawyer
I am interested that you are even attempting a VCL.NET version. It seems to
be a niche that is destined to have a very small market, aka CLX.
Yes.

Okay, Borland store doesn't sell anything but Delphi 2005 which hasn't been
released yet.
I could possibly purchase D7 or D8 from a reseller, and there is a slight
possibility (I'm trying to confirm) that D8 would possibly get me a free
upgrade to D2005, but maybe not, but definitely D7 would not.
I think RB only runs on D7.. Is that correct?? If so, then I basically have
a problem..
Now if I buy D7 and the Software Assurance option (which doubles the cost of
D7), I would qualify for a free upgrade but considering the Software
Assurance is about $300 it's really not free.
Can anybody help me to understand what I can do about this.
What I want to end up with is:
A Delphi that I can use RB, Steema charting, grid pack and walers pdf
creation to create an end user report writer for my users.
and of course, I'd sure like to not have to buy it all over again in a month
or so when Delphi 2005 comes out.
I know that RB9 would be free if I upgrade my RB now, so that's not a
problem, but it sure seems like Delphi is going to be an issue.
Thanks,
Alan Sawyer
2005, but really need something ASAP, so could you just get Delphi 8/7 and a
free upgrade to Delphi 2005 in a month. Email Michael mswindell@borland.com
and I think he will be helpful.

The official word from Delphi is that unless you buy the Software Assurance
plan, which the cheapest I've found is $300, there will not be a grace
period for a free upgrade.
Thanks all for your help.

Is it too late to submit feature requests? If not, should we post them here
or send them to a specific email address?

Feature requests can be emailed to support@digital-metaphors.com.
We appreciate customer feedback. We cannot promise that your requests will
make it into a release, but we difinitely use customer feedback to determine
what enhancements to add. We look at explicit feature request and at
implicit feedback received from questions about how to implement specific
solutions.
Any request received now are probably too late for the next release. On the
other hand, why not make the request now rather than wait.

Maybe. FWIW, DevEx are doing VCL.NET versions of their suites
but then again they also did CLX versions and weren't /aren't very
happy that they did ... hope vcl.net will be better.
Anyway, more on topic, call me crazy if you like, but I see benefits
in RB VCL.NET and am a little disappointed its proved so hard
to produce. Yeah, might even buy it if it existed.

Never got an email back from Michael, so I'm assuming he is unable to help
me.
Does anyone else have have any thoughts?
Thanks in advance,
Alan Sawyer
Post to Borland Delphi Non-Tech newsgroup. I see Michael and others
answering similar questions on that newsgroup.
