headers on subreport with multiple columns

edited June 2003 in Subreports
I have a subreport that has multiple columns. I want the full page width
header to print at the top of each page on this subreport. As a subreport,
the header doesn't print. If I add a new group in order to print the
header, it is always the column size. How can I add a group that uses a
full width group header?

I want it to look just like it does as a single report when the header
information is in the header or title sections. I cannot put it on the very
main report because the other subreport is in landscape and a different
format.

Thanks,

Karen

Try making the subreports Section style subreports. These type of subreports
can have their own header bands, unlke child type subreports. Section
subreports also start printing on their own page too.

OK, I made my subreport a type of SECTION from the main report, and clicked
StartNewPrintJob. Now all I get is a blank page to start, then all the
pages of my report without any header at all. I don't believe I've ever got
the header section to work on a subReport whether using child or section.
I've always had to put them into some type of group header (which I can't in
this case because of the columns).

    What am I doing wrong?

You can accomplish this with a combination of child and section subreports.
Use the title band for the first subreport. Place the header info at the top
of the main report's title band. Thn place a child type subreport underneath
the controls, as they are all in the same title band. Then you can place
all the other subreports as section style in the main report's detail band.
This should work so that you don't get any extra pages. You get a blank
page, because your first subreport is section, so it always starts on a new
page. This is by design. Try the above approach and let me know how it works
    out.

First of all, thanks for your help.

However this doesn't seem to solve my initial problem of getting a header to
print on each page of my subreport. By putting the header information into
the title bar on the Main report, the header only prints on the first page
of my subreport and each page of the subreport after that does not have a
    one.

Group A Items - Main Report
Sub Report #1 (2 column format - portrait)- Group A items, subGroup 1-pg1
    Sub Report #1 (2nd page)- Group A items, subGroup 1(new value) -pg2 >>
    need header on this page
Sub Report #2 (landscape) - Group A items only
    Group B Items
    ....

The header band is supported inside the second and subsequent section style
    subreports:
