in my report I have a page footer with 2 memos. Setting the height of a (static) page footer is no problem. But how can I determine the vertical space that the memos will need?
Check out the following example on how to get the height of a memo and then position it at the bottom of a page. You can use the same method to assign the height of the footerband at runtime. You may also want to consider using the method used in this example rather than using the footer band as this band cannot have a dynamic height.
