RB 7.04 and RB 9

I have projects in Delphi 7 with RB 7.04. I was about to install RB 9, but
noted the warning about other versions of RB on my system being deleted. I
need to run both as I have projects that will need to be maintained in both
versions. How can I accomplish this?

Hi Todd,

It is possible to run different versions of ReportBuilder on the same
machine if they are installed with separate versions of Delphi. For
instance, you could have a version of RB 7.04 running on Delphi 6 and a
version of RB 9 running of Delphi 7 simutaneously. You cannot run RB 7.04
for Delphi 7 and RB 9 for Delphi 7 on the same machine.

Nico,
I may be way off on this but:
If RB7 and RB 9 are installed in separate folders
you should be able to switch easily from RB7 to RB9 with the same
version of Delphi.

I do this with many other software libraries with no problem.
The key, of course, is to change all the appropriate registry
settings when you want to switch and I have a utility that
"snapshots" the settings so they can easily be called up when
needed.

I would have thought that this technique would work with RB7 & RB9
with (say) D7

Hi Jon,

Yes, this may be possible, however the fact still remains that we do not
have any built-in support for this type of installation and definitely do
not recommend it.

Nico,
I can understand the interest in actually doing this (from
the end developer's point of view). When I get RB9 I will still want
to (temporarily) maintain my existing apps with RB7. I will also
want to keep D7 running for awhile. Keeping a "fall-back"
for my apps is a strategy I like to follow.

I'll report back my success or lack thereof. On the other hand,
since it's not recommended, may be I shouldn't tell you
