ReportBuilder Server - Some questions

edited June 2005 in General
Hi,

On 23/06/2005 I mailed the questions metioned below to
info@digital-metaphors.com but got no reply. Therefore I posted it here.

I'm using ReportBuilder Pro with Delphi 7. Most of my applications I'm
creating is Internet based applications. See the following as a typical
example:

http://196.33.85.17/geoinfo The version on the web server is running on
Windows 2000 Pro, under Apache 2.x (Windows version). Apart from the
Windows 2000 Pro operating system, no licensing whatsoever is involved in
this application.

I created this application via Delphi 7 by using the IntraWeb components of
AtoZedSoftware, the Rubicon components of Tamarack Associates and a FireBird
database. This application can also be executed directly from a CD and is
distributed to some Africa countries. This the later case I'm using the
build-in web server of a stand-alone IntraWeb application. We distribute
this stand-alone version royalty free. The IP adrress of a stand-alone
server is always 127.0.0.1

If I switch over from ReportBuilder Pro to ReportBuilder Server, will I
still be able run reports via a stand-alone version, executed directly from
CD, without payment of a server deployment license?

If not, then what about a feature to ignore the server deployment license if
the server's IP address is 127.0.0.1 because then it must be a stand-alone
version. A feature like this will promote the product under IntraWeb
developers.

My last question is about Netscape 7.x compatable browsers. When will
ReportBuilder Server support them?

Nols Smit

    1. Browser support

I just download Netscape 8 and tested against our live demo server and it
works quite well. I have also tested FireFox successfully.

    2. Licensing

What is the goal of the CD, is it a trial version?

    Thanks for the reply,

We distribute a subset of our literature and map database to the African
countries forming the SADC group. SADC is the acronym for Southern African
Development Community. Therefore the database on the CD is the real McCoy.
The reason why I also distribute the application via CD is because of the
lack of proper Internet access from many towns and cities in Africa. I'm
using ReportBuilder Pro 7.04 but because most of my applications I develop
is Internet based, I would like to switch over to ReportBuilder Server.
When I distribute information via a CD, by using the Intraweb technology,
then I do not want to use ReportBuilder Pro for that purpose. I also do not
want to develop a system both for windows and the Internet. I also do not
want to use both ReportBuilder Server and ReportBuilder Pro.

According to my knowledge, if your software found the IP address of
127.0.0.1 then it MUST be a stand-alone application and therefore one should
be allowed to use it license-free for the local host address.
